Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms on an entry level contract with forward Nils Aman.  

According to Leksands IF:

Nils Åman has signed his first NHL contract when he signed a contract with the Vancouver Canucks. This means that Åman will now be on leave from his agreement with Leksands IF.

This means that Åman will now be on leave from the existing three-year contract with Leksands IF, and should he choose to return to play in Europe, the original agreement with Leksands IF will apply again.

Back in February, Jim Rutherford made it clear that college free agents and European free agents, were fair game for Vancouver with the team cap issues.

“Our sales pitch to those people is that we can guarantee guys spots on the team,” he said. “It’s not like we’re coming off going to the Finals. We’re a team that’s still trying to build the team up and when we say to those free agents, you’re going to be on the team, our word is good — they’re going to be on the team.”

Allvin is high on Aman.

“Nils is a smart hockey player who plays with speed and has a strong work ethic,” said Allvin. “He possesses a good two-way game, and we look forward to seeing his continued development on both sides of the ice with the Canucks organization.”  

As far as Aman is concerned, the “organization” is the Canucks. Reports are already established that there will be no American Hockey League for him.

After he went unsigned by the Avalanche, Åman made it clear that his sights are set firmly on the NHL in an interview with Dala-Demokraten.  

“We’ll see what happens. It’s always been a dream to go over and play in the U.S. or Canada, so of course, you’ll take that chance if you get it,” said Åman. “But I’d rather play in Leksand than in the farm league in the AHL.”

Aman, 22, accumulated 14 points (6-8-14), eight penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 51 games with Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) last season. In 110 career SHL games, all played with Leksands IF, Aman recorded 27 points (9-18-27) and 18 penalty minutes while adding a point (1-0-1) in 4 career playoff games.  

The Avesta, Sweden native has represented his country on the international stage on multiple occasions, totaling 11 points (2-9-11) and six penalty minutes in 22 games. Most recently, he was selected to represent Sweden at the 2022 IIHF World Championship.  

The 6’2″, 185-pound forward was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the sixth round, 167th overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
