Vancouver (6-10-1=13 pts) was walloped by the New York Rangers (13-4-0=26 pts) tonight at Rogers Arena, in the second game of their 4 game homestand, 7-2 .
The Canucks played the Rangers in the last of two meetings this season; the Canucks having visited New York on November 8, defeating them 5-3.
Canucks defenseman Luca Sbisa had a two point game (0-2=2 pts); Vancouver had goals from Brandon Sutter (3), and Markus Granlund (5), with assists going to Daniel Sedin (5) and Derek Dorsett (3), in the losing effort.
Henrik Sedin extended his points streak to 6 games (3-3=6 pts / 6 Games).
Canucks starting goalie Jacob Markstrom, stopped 18 of 25 shots in the game.
Markstrom, is 4-3-1 with a 2.82 GAA and a .892 save percentage.
Vancouver is 5-4-0 at home.
Canucks, are t-5th place in the Pacific division with Calgary at 13 points; 5 points behind San Jose in 3rd place.
Game Summary
Canucks led for 47:47 for the season, coming into the game tonight, and were looking to get off to a good start in the game, and take the lead with the opening goal of the game.
With 1:18 left in the opening period, and the Rangers outshot, and out chanced, New York took a 1-0 lead on a goal by J.T. Miller (6), assisted by Mat Zuccarello (5), at 18:42.
Daniel Sedin and Troy Stecher had 3 shots each in first period. Canucks had only one blocked shot in that period.
In the second, Kevin Hayes put the Rangers up by two goals, 2-0, at 9:08, assisted by Jesper Fast (7) and Brady Skjei (10).
Jacob Markstrom, with the Canucks shorthanded, would make a number of saves on a scramble in front of the Canucks net, but the Rangers would make it 3-0 on the power play on a goal by Brandon Pirri (5), assisted by Mika Zibanejad (9) and Ryan McDonagh (11), at 14:38.
In the final minutes of the middle frame, Brandon Sutter would bring the Canucks within two goals of New York, 3-1, at 19:19, with his 3rd goal of the season, assisted by Daniel Sedin (5) and Luca Sbisa (2).
In the third, Vancouver was facing coming from behind by a 3-1 score for the second consecutive game at home, and they would have to play with desperation and intensity.
Kevin Hayes ended any chance of a Canucks comeback early in the final period, with second goal of the game, at 1;49, on a penalty delay to the Canucks; assisted by Jesper Fast (8), his second assist of the game.
J.T. Miller (7), would make it two goals in 42 seconds for the Rangers in the third, to put more distance between themselves and the Canucks, at 5-1, assisted by Mats Zuccarello (6) and Mika Zibanejad (10), at 2:31.
Markus Granlund made it 5-2 Rangers, with his second goal in as many games, and his 5 goal of the season, assisted by Derek Dorsett (3) and Luca Sbisa (3), at 13:26.
Mats Zuccarello, would answer back for the Rangers, with a goal at 15:02, to make it 6-2 for New York, assisted by Nick Holden (7) and Kevin Klein (5).
Nick Holden, picked up his 2nd goal of the season, to make it 7-2 Rangers, at 18:04, on the power play, assisted by Kevin Klein (6) and Ocar Lindberg (1).
New York finished the final period with 4 goals on 7 shots, to take the game, 7-2.
