Games of The Week:

  • October 15th at Tampa Bay Lightning (4-1 Loss):
    • A tough start to the week for the Canucks, as they fell to the Lightning. Tampa’s starting goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy lived up to his reputation as an NHL top five goalie, and the Canucks struggled to generate consistent offense against the Lightning lineup.
    • Arturs Silovs struggled at times in making 23 saves.
  • October 17th at Florida Panthers (3-2 Win – OT):
    • This was a thrilling game! The Canucks battled hard against the Panthers, with J.T. Miller scoring the overtime winner. A great bounce-back win after the loss in Tampa.
    • Starting goalie Kevin Lankinen provided solid goaltending making 26 saves.
  • October 19th at Philadelphia Flyers (3-0 Win):
    • The Canucks finished their game week strong with a convincing win against the Flyers.
    • Starting goalie Kevin Lankinen stood tall in net for his first NHL shutout as a Canuck, in his second straight start.

Key Takeaways:

  • Resilience:
    • Bouncing back from the Tampa Bay loss with two strong wins shows the Canucks have some fight in them and desire to play hard for 60 minutes.
  • Goaltending Depth:
    • Both Lankinen and Silovs have provided the Canucks with secure goaltending early in the season, giving the Canucks confidence in net.
  • Miller Time:
    • J.T. Miller continues to be a clutch performer for the Canucks, coming up big with the overtime winner against Florida and continuing his strong play against Philadelphia.
  • Secondary Scoring:
    • Conor Garland, Teddy Blueger, and Kiefer Sherwood have contributed with goals; strong play in offensive end and stalwart defensive support.

Overall:

Despite the early loss on the road trip, to Tampa Bay, the Canucks had a successful week on the road, garnering 4 points in three games.

Winning two in a row, including a thrilling overtime victory against Florida and shutting out the Flyers, should give Vancouver momentum heading into their next week of games.
