General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the Canucks    have agreed to terms with the following players:

  • Ian Cole (1 year, $3M)
  • Teddy Blueger (1 year, $1.9M)
  • Carson Soucy (3 years, 3.25M AAV)
  • Matt Irwin (1 year, $775,000, 2-way contract)
Ian Cole

“Ian brings a lot of experience to our hockey team and will definitely bolster our blueline,” said Allvin. “He knows what it takes to be successful in the NHL, knows how to compete, and he knows how to be a leader both on and off the ice. Bringing in someone with a Stanley Cup experience and pedigree is an important addition to our core group.”

Teddy Blueger

“Teddy is someone we are familiar with and will fit in nicely with our club,” said Allvin. “We needed some veteran experience down the middle to help us improve this coming season. Teddy has been a part of two Stanley Cup winning teams and will add a lot to our lineup, including the ability to kill penalties, an area we know we have to be better this year.”

Canucks Press Release
Carson Soucy

“Carson will provide stability and size to our back end,” said Allvin. “He is a player who uses his big frame to his advantage, plays a sound defensive game and also has the tools to chip in offensively. His experience playing a man down will be a great asset for our penalty kill this coming season.”

Canucks Press Release
Matt Irwin

Irwin served a depth role for the Capitals last season, playing just 13:03 per game, including 0:54 per game on the penalty kill.

The gritty defenceman had his best years in San Jose and Nashville earlier in his career.

The Canucks needed someone to fill the gap as a seventh defenceman. It’s a thankless job and one that is typically given to a veteran who is willing to be a regular healthy scratch without complaint but can also play a predictable, steady game on the ice when needed.
