Vancouver (7-10-1=15 pts) played the last game of their 4 game homestand tonight at Rogers Arena against Western conference rivals, Chicago Blackhawks (12-4-2=26 pts), and the Canucks took a 3-0 lead into the third period, only to lose in overtime, 4-3.

Daniel Sedin and Brandon Sutter both extended their point streaks in the second period. Daniel Sedin (4-5=9 pts / 8 Games); Brandon Sutter (4-1=5 pts / 3 Games).

Brandon Sutter (5), Loui Eriksson (3), Bo Horvat (6) launched Vancouver to a 3-0 lead. Helpers came from Henrik Sedin (7), Daniel Sedin (7), Alex Burrows (3), Sven Baertschi (5) and Ben Hutton (2).

Canucks starting goalie Jacob Markstrom, stopped 28 of 32 shots in the game.

Markstrom, is 5-3-2 with a 2.82 GAA and a .897 save percentage.

Vancouver is 6-4-1 at home.

Canucks, are in 5th place in the Pacific division with 16 points; 3 points behind San Jose and Los Angeles in 3rd place; a point ahead of Calgary and 2 points ahead of Arizona.

Game Summary

In the first, the Canucks would get the opening goal for the 3rd time this season, when Loui Eriksson would score on the power play, his 3rd of the season, to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead; assisted by Sven Baertschi (5) and Ben Hutton (2), at 13:49.

For the first time this season, the Canucks ended the opening period of a game with the lead, 1-0.

Canucks had 7 blocked shots in the period; and one giveaway.

In the second, Bo Horvat scored his 2nd shorthanded goal of the season, and 6th overall, to make it 2-0 Vancouver, at 17:03, assisted by Alex Burrows (3).

Eighty-four seconds later, Brandon Sutter would score his 5th goal of the season, to make it 3-0 at 18:27, assisted by Daniel Sedin (7) and Henrik Sedin (7).

In the third, Vancouver would be looking for back-to-back wins at home since October.

The Blackhawks were thinking something else.

Chicago, after a power play opportunity did not result in anything with the man advantage, would pull within two goals of the Canucks, when Artemi Panarin (7) would score, assisted by Patrick Kane (14) and Brian Campbell (6), at 2:53.

Seventy-three seconds later, the Blackhawks would score again, to make it 3-2, when Vinnie Hinostroza (1), unassisted, buried the puck behind Markstrom, for his first NHL goal.

Chicago would complete the comeback to even the score at 3-3, when Ryan Hartman (4), would score, at 15:46, assisted by Vinnie Hinostroza (1).

With 2:01 left, the Canucks were just hanging on, as the Blackhawks were being relentless with their pressure, and an icing call resulted in a Vancouver timeout, to settle things down.

Regulation time would end and to overtime the game would go, with both teams tied 3-3.

In the overtime, Chicago wasted little time, as their captain Jonathan Toews scored at 0:31. The goal was reviewed automatically, and an offside on the play resulted in the goal being disallowed.

The game continued, with a flurry of exciting action, as both teams got high quality chances, and somehow, neither team could bury the puck.

Until, Marian Hossa with his second consecutive game winner, would seal the game for the Blackhawks, 4-3.

Hossa, his 11th goal, assisted by Duncan Keith (14) and  Vinnie Hinostroza (2), at 4:04.
