Vancouver responded less than two minutes later on an effort by Brock Boeser to even the score at 1-1.

The Canucks then rallyed to seemingly take the lead on a beautiful effort by Arshdeep Bains to give Vancouver the early lead at 2-1 less than two minutes later but was successfully challenged by Carolina for being offside.

The Hurricanes scored late in the opening period on a goal by Martin Necas to take a 2-1 lead into the first period intermission.

After falling behind 3-1 early in the second period on a Carolina goal by Jake Roslovic, the Canucks battled back to tie the game in the 3rd period with goals from Quinn Hughes and Pius Suter.

Suter tied the game for Vancouver with just 3:05 left in regulation, setting the stage for a dramatic finish in overtime.
