The Vancouver Canucks (4-1-2, 4th Pacific Division) responded with four consecutive goals in the second period, together with three in 1:05, and outlasted a late pushback by the Pittsburgh Penguins (3-6-1, t-6th Metropolitan Division) for a 4-3 win at Rogers Arena on Saturday.
To celebrate Tyler Myers’ 1000 games, the NHLPA and Canucks presented Tyler Myers with several gifts, including a silver stick prior to the game faceoff.
Game Summary
The visiting Penguins opened the scoring in the 1st period on a goal by Anthony Beauvillier at 7:48.
In the 2nd period, the Penguins quickly made it 2-0 as Bryan Rust buried the puck past Canucks starting goalie Kevin Lankinen at 1:56.
The Canucks then exploded with four unanswered goals, including three in an incredible span of 1:05.
Elias Pettersson started the offensive outburst with his first goal of the season at 4:06 to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Kiefer Sherwood followed up, knotting the game at 2-2, 43 seconds later.
J.T. Miller responded 22 seconds after Sherwood to pull Vancouver ahead 3-2 at 5:11.
Arshdeep Bains capped off the first half of the middle frame and period with his first goal in the NHL at 9:58 for a Canucks 4-2 lead after two periods.
In the final period, the Penguins weren’t going down without a fight.
Pittsburgh scored in the third to make it a one-goal game at 13:22 on a goal by Evgeni Malkin and put pressure on Vancouver.
Vancouver would hold on for a 4-3 victory to extend their unbeaten streak to four consecutive wins.
