Captain Hughes scored 2 goals, 1 assist; Brock Boeser pocketed 4 assists and the Canucks soundly defeated the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena, 5-2 on Saturday night.
Vancouver improved their 2023 pre-season record to 1-2-1, while Edmonton dropped to 2-2-1.
Phillip Di Giuseppe (1+2=3), Elias Pettersson (1+1=2), both had strong games as well.
Boeser, J.T. Miller and Di Giuseppe were all a plus/minus of +3 in the game. Quinn Hughes and Cole McWard were each a +2.
Starting goalie Thatcher Demko stopped 24 of 36 shots (17 of 19 EV strength, 7 for 7 shorthanded), with an SV% (save percentage) of .923 for the game.
Adam Erne and Raphael Lavoie scored for Edmonton, while Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner made 23 saves on 28 shots.
The next game for Vancouver is Wednesday, October 4, in Abbotsford, B.C. against the Seattle Kraken.
