To a person, the Canucks had to play better and sooner than later, if the organization did not want to continue getting rid of another head coach because the players can’t understand Canadian English and execute the expected good habits; play within the expected structure; and fulfill the expected standard set up and established to bring success if followed precisely.
The Canucks third game of their 5 game road trip against the Tampa Bay Lightning started out where Vancouver left off against Philadelphia on Tuesday night in the opening period, with the Canucks heading to the intermission behind 1-0.
Things changed early in the middle frame, and while it took four periods of scoreless hockey for Vancouver to register a goal, they actually scored two goals in 62 seconds to take a 2-1 advantage.
Unfortunately, a one goal advantage against the Lightning isn’t always enough to win, and the home team did what the Canucks did, with two quick goals of their own, 69 seconds apart late in the 2nd period, to go up 3-2 at the end of two periods.
In the final period, a Lightning power play goal, their second d of the game, put Tampa Bay up 4-2.
With just over two minutes left, Vancouver drew within a goal at 4-3 but could not complete a comeback or force overtime to register at least a single point for their efforts.
Next game, game #4 of the road trip on Saturday, October 21 against the Florida Panthers.
