The Vancouver Canucks’ (13-7-3, P%-.630, t-3rd Pacific Division) started their week continuing with a 6-game road trip beginning with games against the Boston Bruins on November 26th, Pittsburgh Penguins on November 27thBuffalo Sabres on November 29th, and Detroit Red Wings on December 1st. .

Games of The Week

  • November 26th at Boston Bruins (2-0 Win):
    • Jake DeBrusk scores winning goal against former team: It was DeBrusk’s first game in Boston since signing with the Canucks as a free agent in the offseason.
    • Canucks shut out Bruins: Vancouver goalie Kevin Lankinen earned the shutout, stopping all 33 shots he faced for his 8th consecutive road win, and 2nd shutout of the season.
    • Strong defensive performance: The Canucks played a strong defensive game, limiting the Bruins’ scoring opportunities. Vancouver blocked 26 shots to Boston’s 11.
  • November 27th at Pittsburgh Penguins (5-4 Loss):
    • Vancouver strikes early: The Canucks tied the game at 1-1 after the Penguins opened the scoring in the first period, but the Penguins stormed back with four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead.
    • Rust and Karlsson lead the way: Penguins forward Bryan Rust scored two goals and added an assist, while defenseman Erik Karlsson had three assists.
    • Canucks mount late comeback: The Canucks scored three consecutive goals in the final two periods to make it a close game, but they couldn’t complete the comeback.
  • November 29th at Buffalo Sabres (4-3 OT Win):
    • Garland scores the game-winner: Conor Garland scored the game-winning goal with 1:01 left in overtime, giving the Canucks their third win in 4 games on their 6-game road trip.
    • Canucks overcome early deficit: The Canucks trailed 1-0 after the first period but battled back to secore three consecutive goals going into the last seven minutes of the game.
    • Sabres force overtime: Dylan Cozens and Alex Tuch scored in 109 seconds, and both teams were unable to decide the winner in regulation.
    • Strong penalty kill: The Canucks penalty kill unit was perfect, killing off all five Sabres power plays.
  • December 1st at Detroit RedWings (5-4 OT Win):
    • Kevin Lankinen became the first goalie in NHL history to win the first 10 road appearances to start a season.
    • Jake DeBrusk had his second career hat trick,  including the game-winner in overtime, and chipped in with an assist on the goal to send the game into overtime.
    • Quinn Hughes had three assists and became the Canucks’ all-time assists leader among defensemen (313) overtaking former Canuck Alex Edler.
    • Elias Pettersson had 3 primary assists; Brock Boeser, one helper.

Overall

One word sums up the Canucks week: Relentlessness.

Canucks DeBrusk, Hughes, Pettersson and Lankinen Lead Vancouver to 5-4 OT Win Over Detroit

The Vancouver Canucks (13-7-3, 3rd Pacific Division) defeated the Detroit Red Wings (10-11-3, 6th Atlantic Division) 5-4 in overtime for their 10th road win, and 4rth victory in 5 games on their 6-game road trip, that fislnishes Tuesday night in Minnesota.

Game Recap

Kevin Lankinen became the first goalie in NHL history to win the first 10 road appearances to start a season.

Jake DeBrusk had his second career hat trick,  including the game-winner in overtime, and chipped in with an assist on the goal to send the game into overtime.

DeBrusk opened the scoring for Vancouver with two power play goals in 45 seconds on a 5-on-3 Canucks advantage early in the middle frame after Vancouver trailed 1-0 after the first period.

With a 3-2 deficit to start the final period, Detroit wasted little time getting back at the Canucks with two goals in less than three minutes, to take a 4-3 lead with 15:10 left in the game.

With time running down, Erik Brannstrom made it 4-4 with 3:20 left in regulation play.

Quinn Hughes had three assists and became the Canucks’ all-time assists leader among defensemen (313) overtaking former Canuck Alex Edler.

Elias Pettersson had 3 assists, Brock Boeser one helper.

Vancouver had 32 total shots on Bruins’ goalies Cam Talbot and Ville Husso, while Lankinen faced 31.

Canuck Pius Suter scored 9th goal of the season and Dakota Joshua earned his second assist since his return to play.

Canucks power play was 2 for 4, while their penalty kill was a 3 for 4.

Highlights

It wasn’t a pretty road win but the Canucks will take the win that could of easily have been a loss if not for Lankinen.

Vancouver was able to generate offense 5-on-5 to help out their power play.

Hughes, DeBrusk, and Suter each had 4 shots; Noah Juulsen, 5 blocked shots, and 5 hits; Joshua 5 hits, Kiefer Sherwood 4 hits.

Canucks had 15 giveaways continuing their trend of giving up the puck in a variety of ways as usual.

Last season Vancouver was 15-8-1 on November 30th, 2023: 92GF, 61GA, +31Diff, 25 for 87PP, 18 for 75PK, 700 S and 731 SA

This season, they are 13-7-3 on December 1st, 2024: 76GF, 73GA, +3 Diff, 16 for 70PP, 14 for 72PK, 622 S and 650 SA
