The Vancouver Canucks’ started their week continuing a 3-game homestand beginning with the Carolina Hurricanes on October 28th and New Jersey Devils on October 30th. They then began a 3-game California road trip on November 2 in San Jose.

Games of The Week

  • October 28th vs Carolina Hurricanes (4-3 OT Loss):
    • The Canucks made a game of it against a strong Hurricanes team but ultimately fell short in overtime.
    • Brock Boeser had a goal and an to lead Vancouver’s offensive efforts. However, Carolina’s Pyotr Kochetkov was solid in net, and they managed to steal the win on the road.
  • October 30th vs. New Jersey Devils (6-0 Loss):
    • This was a tough one for the Canucks as they gave backup goalie Arturs Silovs a start after over 10 days without a game.
    • They were shut out at home by the Devils, raising concerns about their defensive play and offensive consistency. The Devils dominated the game, and the Canucks couldn’t find an answer.
  • November 2nd at San Jose Sharks (3-2 Win):
    • The Canucks finished the week on a high note with a win in San Jose
    • Pius Suter played the hero, scoring two goals, including the game-winner. It was a much needed win after a disappointing loss to New Jersey.

Overall Week

The Canucks went 1-2-0 for the week, demonstrating some inconsistency in their performances. They showed flashes of strong play against Carolina but struggled mightily against New Jersey. Bouncing back with a win in San Jose was crucial to maintain some positive momentum.

Key Game Points

  • Offensive inconsistency: The Canucks need to find more consistent scoring throughout their lineup.
  • Defensive concerns: The shutout loss to New Jersey exposed some defensive vulnerabilities, especially the lack of support for Silovs by his teammates.
  • Goaltending: Arturs Silovs has yet to show he is a capable backup goalie. That is the roll he has, as Kevin Lankinen is the hot goalie for Vancouver right now. But consistent goaltending will be crucial for the Canucks’ success, and Silovs has to turn his game around if he wants to stay in the NHL.

Final Thoughts:

Despite the loss to Carolina in OT, the game against New Jersey was embarrassing, but they did salvage the week with a victory against San Jose.

Gaining 3 out of a possible 6 points plus establishing a streak of one win should give Vancouver momentum heading into their next week of games.

And they better use that momentum wisely, as their entire slat of opponents this week are Pacific Division rivals!
