The Canucks played their third of six scheduled preseason games, opening up a three game road swing on Friday night against Seattle Kraken, and came out on the wrong end of the score with a 3-1 loss.

Canucks closed out the first period on their heels behind 2-0. Vancouver fell behind 3-0 in the middle frame before scoring their one and only goal on a great wrap around effort by Tyler Myers on Kraken goalie Joey Daccord in the second period.

The third period was scoreless.

Canucks visit the Flames in Calgary tonight in the second of three road games, finishing their road swing on Monday night against the Edmonton Oilers.

Elias Pettersson and Kiefer Sherwood picked up assists on the lone Canucks goal.

Canucks recent free agent signing goalie Kevin Lankinen started and finished the game in net for the Canucks stopping 20 of 23 shots he faced.

Head Coach Rick Tocchet was not entirely pleased with the Canucks effort against Seattle but it is preseason after all and besides there were some positive things he took from the game.

But while Tocchet stressed some things he liked, he did not see the fast pace he was expecting from his lineup.

With a much different lineup expected tonight against Calgary, Tocchet will be wanting to see his opening season starters come front and center and generate the type of game and pace he is looking for out of his club.

The glowing talk, the downplay of preseason efforts, and excuses for inconsistency needs to shift to this team taking on the play of a 2025 playoff contender, not a playoff pretender.

Time for the Canucks coaching staff to start playing their opening season lineup and challenge them. If they don’t meet expectations, bring somebody up from the AHL Canucks. They’ll gladly bring the expected effort for a chance to play in the NHL.

CanucksBanter Rant: Postscript

The Canucks media as a whole have to stop the sugar coating of the Canucks:

stop crying about things like the Canucks cap, the injured players and that it is only preseason; and it’s fine if the ‘Millionaires’ on the Canucks are not bringing it in preseason.

Makes me wonder if some of these Vancouver Canuck so-called “Stars” worked in the real world of their fans, they could cut it.

Time for this Canuck players to stop with reading the newspaper clippings of last season and face reality: What have you accomplished lately?

The last season is in the past, and the new season is fast approaching. Don’t miss the bus and find yourself skating behind it, playing catch up. You might not get there.
