Canucks J.T. Miller was instrumental in taking some questionable penalties last night against the Nashville Predators and putting his team at serious jeopardy of losing their game.
Miller tried making up for it with a goal after his second penalty and was benched by Head Coach Rick Tocchet for a bit of time. He had 6 penalty minutes total.
Instead of being a professional and example to his children, nobody is perfect, and mistakes do happen, but the right thing is to face up to it. Not dodge responsibility with the media. He is a very well-respected leader in the change room and on the ice, I believe.
Accountability is necessary in making sure people accept responsibility for their actions, whether right or wrong; if wrong, made to understand what was done that was wrong and encouraged to make correction, especially if the person knows better, and has demonstrated the right way in the past.
I would hope Mr. Miller did not dodge the media last night but instead spent the time reflecting on how his poor choice of actions could have resulted in a different outcome for his team.
There is nothing wrong with being slow to speak, but his actions next game will speak volumes if he reacts differently than as a team leader and makes up for his poor choice of actions by doing what is expected.
