LAS VEGAS — Ty Dellandrea scored twice in the third period for the Dallas Stars, who avoided elimination again with a 4-2 win against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

It was the first multigoal NHL game for Dellandrea, who was a healthy scratch the first two games of this series.

Vegas still leads the best-of-7 series 3-2. Game 6 will be in Dallas on Monday.

Jason Robertson and Luke Glendening also scored for Dallas, which is the No. 2 seed from the Central Division. Jake Oettinger made 27 saves.

Ivan Barbashev and Chandler Stephenson scored, and Jonathan Marchessault had two assists for Vegas, which is the top seed from the West. Adin Hill made 30 saves.

Dellandrea gave the Stars a 3-2 lead at 10:35 of the third period when his shot from the right circle deflected off Alex Pietrangelo‘s stick and beat Hill short side under his glove.

Dellandrea then made it 4-2 at 12:02, scoring from in front after Max Domi was pushed into Hill by Nicolas Hague.

Barbshev gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 13:36 of the first period. After Jack Eichel won a battle with Wyatt Johnston, Barbashev picked up the loose puck, cut toward the net, and warded off Mason Marchment before tucking a shot past Oettinger’s right pad.

Glendening tied it 1-1 at 15:24, redirecting Thomas Harley‘s shot from the point.

Stephenson put Vegas back in front 2-1 at 3:20 of the second period. He skated off the bench, took a cross-ice pass from Shea Theodore in the left circle, and roofed a wrist shot glove side on Oettinger.

Robertson tied it 2-2 at 5:29. His initial shot was blocked by Theodore, but the puck landed at his feet and he chipped the rebound in over Hill.

Ty Dellandrea scored twice in the span of 1:27 – the fifth-fastest two playoff goals by one skater in Stars/North Stars history. The last Dallas player to score two faster playoff goals was Jere Lehtinen (1:04 in Game 2 of 2006 CQF)….He also recorded the first multi-goal game of his career (regular season or playoffs) and became just the fourth player to do so in a game which his team was facing elimination in the Conference Final/Semifinal. The others: Eddie Mazur in Game 7 of the 1953 Semifinals (w/ MTL), Johnny Peirson in Game 4 of the 1948 Semifinals (w/ BOS) and Charlie Sands in Game 4 of the 1933 Semifinals (w/ TOR).

Max Domi became the fourth skater in Stars/North Stars history to record 10 assists in his first postseason with the team, joining Brian Propp (15 in 1991), Bobby Smith (13 in 1980) and Brad Richards (12 in 2008).

Chandler Stephenson scored his eighth goal of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, tying the Golden Knights’ franchise record for the most in a single postseason. Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson also have eight goals this postseason.

The Stars’ Game 5 win marked the 45th victory by a road team in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, which tied the third most in a single playoff year in NHL history. The only postseasons to feature as many road wins are 2012 (47), 1987 (46), and 2016 (45).
