Canucks Get Prospect LW Josh Bloom From Sabres For D Riley Stillman Today

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has acquired left wing prospect Josh Bloom from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenceman Riley Stillman.

“We would first like to thank Riley Stillman for his time here in Vancouver and we wish him the best in Buffalo,” said Allvin. “We are excited to add another young prospect in Josh Bloom and we look forward to working with him and helping his development in the years to come.”

Bloom, 19, is currently playing for the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) after initially beginning his third season of OHL play with the Saginaw Spirit.

In 59 games split between the Battalion and Spirit this season, Bloom has recorded 58 points (26-32-58), 44 penalty minutes, and a +9 plus-minus rating.

Since being acquired by the Battalion on November 16, the 6’2″, 182-pound forward has produced at a point-per-game rate, posting 42 points (19-23-42) in 40 games played. More than one-third of Bloom’s points this season have been registered on special teams, with 18 points (8-10-18) coming on the power play in addition to a league-leading four shorthanded goals.

Bloom began this season as the 22nd captain in Spirit history, after serving last season as an alternate captain. Last season (2021.22), Bloom ranked second in overall scoring on Saginaw (30-31-61 in 67 games) while tying the franchise record for most shorthanded goals in a single season (7).

A product of Oakville, Ontario, Bloom was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the third round, 95th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
