Thatcher Demko has been recalled by the Canucks to backup Jacob Markstrom tonight against the Florida Panthers after Ryan Miller suffered a lower body injury Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning with less than seven minutes left in the game.
It is Demko’s first call up to the National Hockey League after playing 14 games with the Comets this season.
The highly touted Demko had a tough start to the season. But, Demko has been stellar for the Comets after fellow goaltender Richard Bachman went down with a lower-body injury on Nov. 19.
In his last nine starts, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound Demko has a 7-2 record.
He totaled 24 saves in Friday’s 4-3 loss against Binghamton, which was the first time in seven appearances he allowed more than two goals.
In 14 games, he has a 7-5-1 record, a 2.59 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
