Aisulu Almaty-13 vs DEC Salzberg Eagles-1

EWHL Super Cup Group B play continued today with a game between Aisulu Almaty and DEC Salzberg Eagles in Zeltweg, Austria.

On September 18, Salzberg defeated ECDC Memmingen 2-1 in overtime in EWHL Super Cup Group B play.

The goals started early for Aisulu Almaty and often in the first period as they posted a 6-0 lead in the opening period in their first EWHL Super Cup game of the season, outshooting Salzberg 15-1 in the period.

Roxanne Rioux paced Almaty in the opening period with 4 points including a pair of goals, with Breanna Lynn Berndsen picking up three points (1-2). Munira Sayakhatkyzy had two points (1-1), along with Kalista Senger (0-2).

Single goals also came from Malika Aldabergenova, Larissa Sviridova, and Munira Sayakhatkyzy. Assists were picked up by Anna Pyatkova, Pernesh Ashimova, Karina Felzink, Tatyana Koroleva, and Erin McLean.

In the middle frame, Almaty continued their offensive attack, racking up another five goals, outshooting the home team 12-2, with Salzberg picking up a single goal, Almaty taking an 11-1 lead after two periods.

Senger, Aida Olzhabayeva, Ashimova, McLean and Madina Tursynova scored, to put Almaty out in front 11-0. Aldabergenova and Ashimova had two assists each, with single helpers from Tursynova, Pyatkova, Lyubov Nolfina, Alina Ivanchenko, and Sviridova.

Salzberg’s goal in the middle period came from Annelise Rice, assisted by Sophia Volgger and Christina Bayer at 19:15 of the period, to make it 11-1 after two.

In the final period, Aldabergenova on an unassisted goal at 8:12; and Berndsen at 18:39, assisted by Sayakhatkyzy, made the final score of the game 13-1 in favor of the visitors.

Aisulu Almaty outshot DEC Salzberng 43-7 (15-1,12-2, 16-4). Both teams were scoreless on the power play, with Almaty 0 for 2 and Salzberg 0 for 3.

Rioux (2-2), Aldabergenova (2-2), Ashimova (1-3), and Berndsen (2-2) led Almaty with 4 points each; Sayakhatkyzy (1-2) and Senger (1-2) had 3 points each.

Trail, British Columbia’s Erin McLean (1-1=2points) tied with her teammate Sayakhatkyzy with a +6 plus/minus with her play in the game. Senger and Aida Olzhabayeva each had a +5 plus/minus. Five other players had a +4 plus/minus.

EWHL SuperCup Group C

 SH Majadahonda-0 vs KMH Budapest-13

EWHL Super Cup Group C play continued today in Germany at Ingolstadt Saturn Arena in Ingolstadt, Germany.

It was another tough day for the Madrid, Spain team SH Majadahonda as they took on EWHL Super Cup Group C favorites KMH Budapest, after losing their first two Super Cup games on the weekend by a combined score of 23-1.

Madrid were rocked for a third straight game in Group C play, as they were dominated 13-0 by KMH Budapest.

Budapest were led by Franciska Kiss-Simon with 5 points (2-3); Carly Bullock (2-2), Haylay Williams (2-2), Rhyen McGill, with 4 points each; Reka Dabasi (2-1) and Eniko Toth (0-3), with 3 points each.

Alexandra Huszak had a pair of goals, with single goals going to Petra Szamosfalvi and Sarah Knee. Only two Budapest players failed to get a point, Whitney Dove and Lara Escudero.

KMH Budapest goaltender Agnes Szigeti got the shutout, stopping all 7 shots she faced, as Madrid was outshot in the game 63-7 (22-2, 24-3, 17-2).

Neither team was successful on the power play with Budapest 0 for 5 and Madrid 0 for 2.

 HC SKP Bratislava-5 vs ERC Ingolstadt-4 SO

HC SKP Bratislava and ERC Ingolstadt saved the best game game for last at Ingolstadt Saturn Arena in Germany, in a nail bitter for sure.

Both teams started off fast, each side wanting to win their final EWHL Super Cup game of the weekend, especially Ingolstadt.

Ingolstadt’s Nicola Eisenschmid opened the scoring giving Ingolstadt a quick 1-0 advantage, assisted by Marie Delarbre and Jule Schiefer at 18 seconds.

Seventy-five seconds later, Bratislava would score the equalizer on a goal by Emilia Leskovjanska, assisted by Zuzana Dobiasova and Paula Caganova at 1:33.

Just over the halfway point of first period, Bratislava would take the lead 2-1 on a power play goal by Lucia Istocyova, assists going to Tatiana Korenkova and Sofia Vysokajova at the 10:48 mark, and that would be the score at the end of period. Both teams registered 10 shots.

The second period would be like the first with three goals scored.

At 7:10 Ingolstadt tied up the game at 2-2 as Eva Byszio scored, assisted by Celina Haider and Carina Pielmeier. Just over a minute later, Bratislava would retake the lead at 3-2 on an unassisted goal by Han Fancovicova at 8:36.

Ingolstadt would come back to even up the game at 3-3 with their own power play goal with less than half a period left at 11:41, on a goal by Tanja Eisenschmid; assists going to Delarbre and Ann-Kathrin Voog.

The final period of regulation play would start with the game still even at 3-3, and Ingolstadt having a slim lead in shots 19-17.

The power play would benefit Bratislava again, as Ingolstadt’s Marie Delarbre would take a tripping penalty at 7:47, and her teammate Celina Haider for hooking at 8:55.

With a 5-on-3 advantage, Bratislava pressed Ingolstadt for a game leading goal, and arrive it did, after the initial penalty had expired. Lucia Haluskova from Liavia Kubekova and Roman Haluskova at 9:49.

With both teams registering few shots, and the game still 4-3 Bratislava approaching the end of regulation play, Ingolstadt had to give it all they had, with every shift to get the equalizing goal to force the possibility of overtime.

As the final period approached the final three minutes of play, Ingolstadt rallied in Bratislava end, and slipped the puck past Bratislava goaltender Nikola Zimkova to knot the game at 4-4. Tanja Eisenschmid, her 2nd goal of the game, assists to Delarbre and Schiefer at 17:03.

With 27 seconds left in regulation play, the tension and excitement in the game would be heightened as Bratsislava’s Livia Kubekova would be sent to the penalty box for high sticking, giving Ingolstadt an opportunity to get the winning goal in regulation time. That would not be the case.

With a three minute break and no ice flood both teams went to a five minute overtime with no winner decided and off to a a penalty shootout to decide the game.

 HC SKP Bratislava’s Zuzana Dobiasova would win the game 5-4, disappointing the home crowd in a cliffhanger hard played game.

Ingolstadt outshot Bratislava 27-25. Bratislava was 2 for 5 on the power play, Ingolstadt 1 for 5.

EWHL SuperCup Group A

 EHV Sabres Vienna-5 vs ESC Planegg-3

EHV Sabres were playing their first game of the EWHL SuperCup Group A of this season, while ESC Planegg was competing in their second game of EWHL SuperCup Group A.

Planegg defeated MAC Budapest on Saturday September 18, 6-3.

Planegg continued their fine play in EWHL SuperCup action in the first period, opening the scoring at 13:09 on a goal by Anna-Maria Reich, assists to Franziska Feldmeier and Katharina Gerstmeir. Rebecca Orendorz would make it 2-0 for Planegg, with a power play goal at 17:43, assisted by Reich and Feldmeier.

Tatum Skaggs would break the goose egg, pulling the Sabres within a goal at 2-1, with 33 seconds left in the opening period, on the power play, assisted by Karolina Hengelmüller and Kinga Jokai-Szilagyi.

In the middle period, Julia Zorn scored for Planegg on the power play, putting them up 3-1, at 6:09 assisted by Katie Stelling and Kerstin Spielberger.

The Sabres needed to stay out of the penalty box if they were going to have a chance at winning their first game this season in EWHL SuperCup play.

The Sabres started their climb back with a goal by Skaggs less than six minutes later in the second period at 11:37 assisted by Kayla Nielsen and Nadine Edney, to pull within a goal at 3-2.

Just over two minutes later, the Sabres would complete their comeback knotting the game at 3-3 on a goal by Anna Hanser, assisted by Kayla Nielsen and Laura Lüftenegger at 13:53. And that’s how the period would end.

The Sabres were outshooting Planegg after two periods with their play in the last half in the middle frame at 25-21, after drawing even with their opponent opening period 10-10.

In the third period, it looked like the game would reach overtime as the game approached the final three minutes of regulation and the game was still tied at 3-3 and both goalies were not making it easy for either team to move the netting.

But Planegg’s Alicia Williams would take a hooking penalty at 17:39, putting the Sabres on the power play and play with the advantage they did, potting a 4-3 goal some 19 seconds later on a shot by Kayla Nielsen. Assists to Skaggs and Jokai-Szilagyi at 17:58.

Nielsen and the Sabres were not done as 21 seconds later, Nielsen would bury an insurance goal to make it 5-3, assisted by Skaggs and Emily Reid at 18:19 and that would be all for the game.

For the Sabres, Skaggs and Nielsen finished with 4 points each (2-2), while Planegg’s Reich (1-1) and Feldmeier (0-2) had two points each.

EWHL SuperCup Update: September 18, 2021

EWHL SuperCup Group C

EWHL Super Cup Group C play continued today in Germany at Ingolstadt Saturn Arena in Ingolstadt, Germany amongst the teams of ERC Ingolstadt of Germany, KMH Budapest of Hungry, SH Majadahonda of Madrid, Spain and HC SKP Bratislava of Slovakia, and will continue through tomorrow, September 19, 2021.

HC SKP Bratislava-12 vs SH Majadahonda-0

SM Majadahonda from Madrid, Spain were rocked for a second straight game in Group C play, as they were soundly defeated 12-0 by HC SKP Bratislava today.

The goals started early for Bratislava and often in the first period as they posted a 7-0 lead in the opening frame.

Bratislava would add three more goals in the 2nd period, and two more goals in the 3rd period to complete the one-sided match. The Slovakian team outshot the Madrid squad 56-11 (17-1, 20-6, 19-4).

Bratislava had two goal games from Lucia Istocyova, Nikola Nemcekova, Lucia Haluskova and Emma Plankenaerova. Single goals from Roman Haluskova, Emilia Leskovjanska, Tatiana Korenkova and Hana Fancovicova.

Ema Tothova led Bratislava with 4 assists for 4 points. Other 4 point games came from Romana Haluskova (1-3), Tatiana Korenkova (1-3) and Fancovicova (1-3). Istocyova and Nemcekova had 3 points each (2-1).

Nicola Zimkova stopped all 11 shots she faced for her first win and shutout in EWHL SuperCup play this season.

KMH Budapest-4 vs ERC Ingolstadt-2

The EWHL SuperCup Group C favorites, KMH Budapest, battled ERC Ingolstadt to the second of three days of EWHL SuperCup play, and the game was similar in the play to their opening game of the weekend against HC SKP Bratislava.

KMH Budapest scored a quick goal at 2:44 of the opening period, Hayley Williams unassisted to take a 1-0 lead.

Ingolstadt would get on the scoreboard at the 16:35 mark of the period on a goal by Jule Schiefer, assists going to Nicola Eisenschmid and Tanja Eisenschmid.

Minutes before the first period would end Budapest regained the lead with Carly Bullock scoring, assisted by Lara Escudero and Rhyen McGill, to make it 2-1 after a period.

There was no scoring in the middle frame, as neither team could move the goal netting.

The shots after the first two periods were just as close as the game, 15-13 in favor of KMH Budapest.

In the 3rd period, the goalies continued to be stingy but in the final 15 minutes of the final frame that would change.

Alexandra Huszak would take it upon herself to give Budapest some breathing room and insurance by scoring two consecutive goals in 5:02, both assisted by Hayley Williams, to make it 4-1; the first goal at 5;38 and her second at 10:40.

Ingolstadt would try as they could to jump start their offense and late in the period, they scored with the man advantage to pull within two goals, at 4-2. Lena Dusterhoft at 17:53, assisted by Theresa Wagner and Celina Haider. And that would finish the scoring.

Budapest outshot Ingolstadt in the game 24-20. Ingolstadt 1 for 4 on the power play while Budapest was 0 for 4.

Hayley Williams led KMH Budaest with 3 points (1-2), followed by Alexandra Huszak with 2 points (2-0). Williams led Budapest with a +3 plus/minus while nine other players registered at least a +1. For Ingolstadt, six players had a single point.

Goalie Dominque allowed 4 goals on 24 shots for Ingolstadt while goaltender Zsofia Toth of Budapest surrendered 2 goals on 20 shots.

EWHL SuperCup Group A

MAC Budapest-3 vs ESC Planegg-6

EWHL Super Cup Group A play began today with a game between MAC Budapest and ESC Planegg in Budapest, Hungry at  Kisstadion Arena.

The two teams played a close and tight opening period with only three penalties called, which included each team being given penalties for too many men on the ice. Shots were close at 13-12 in favor of MAC Budapest.

Planegg opened the scoring at 3:56 of the first period, Kirsten Spielberger, assisted by Julia Zorn, for a 1-0 score.

MAC Budapest would get on the scoresheet 1:34 later on the power play, to even the game up at 1-1. Fanni Garát-Gasparics at 5:30, assist going to Kathryn Louise Kennedy.

In the second period, Fanni Garát-Gasparics would score her second consecutive goal to put MAC Budapest out in front 2-1, at 4:26, assisted by Jelena Grkovic.

ESC Planegg would tie the game and regain the lead in the final five minutes of the middle frame with unanswered goals. Sarah Kubiczek evened up the game at 2-2, assisted by Celine Mayer and Julia Zorn at 15:26. Then with 63 seconds left in the period, Julia Zorn would put Planegg up by a goal at 3-2 at 18:57, assist going to Katie Stelling.

ESC Planegg led in shots after two periods 26-19.

Planegg continued in the final frame where they left off in the second period, with their third unanswered goal in a row, taking their lead to 4-2 at 4:06, on a goal by Kathrin Lehmann, on the power play, assisted by Franziska Feldmeier.

Planegg would make it a three goal lead at 5-2, with less than three minutes left in the game, at 18:34 by Julia Zorn, assisted by Alicia Williams.

After four consecutive goals by ESC Planegg, MAC Budapest got back on the scoresheet on a goal by Tamara Gondos 22 seconds later at 18:56 to make it 5-3 Planegg. Assisted by Zsófia Pázmándi and Alexandra Ronai.

Katharina Gerstmeir capped off the game for Planegg, on an unassisted marker, with 10 seconds left in the match to end the game with a 6-3 final score.

EWHL SuperCup Group B

DEC Salzberg Eagles-2 vs ECDC Memmingen-1 OT

EWHL Super Cup Group B play continued today with a game between DEC Salzberg Eagles and ECDC Memmingen at Eisarena Salzburg in Salzberg, Austria.

Not many goals scored in this game today but plenty of action including overtime to settle the victor of the match.

The goals that were scored were either early or late in a period, but no goals were scored in the opening period of the game, as both goalies shut the door for a 0-0 score.

Salzberg Eagles goalie Carmen Lasis distinguished herself right from the opening faceoff, and served notice with her focus, composure and poise, she was not going to be beaten easily, stopping 15 Memmingen shots. Her counterpart, Carina Bartsch of only had to stop 5 Salzberg shots.

At 2:20 of the 2nd period, Salzberg would get on the scoreboard on a goal by Annika Fazokas, assisted by Annelise Rice, to take a slim 1-0 lead. That was the lone goal of the middle frame, with Memmingen continuing to plaster the Eages goalie, Carmen Lasis with shots; Memmingen with an 33-12 edge in shots entering the final period of regulation play.

The final period was not for the faint of heart, especially Salzberg, as Memmingen continued bombarding the Eagles with shots, keeping the majority of the play in the Salzberg end, as the home team was generating little offense and the visitors desperately wanted to even the score.

With Carmen Lasis trying to keep the door closed on Memmingen, and her teammates trying to protect a one goal lead, time was running out but with 1:48 left in the third, Memmingen slid a shot past the Salzberg goaltender to even the game up at 1-1, with an opportunity to pull out a victory in regulation play.

Luisa Bottner broke Lasis’s shutout bid at 18:12 to tie the game at 1-1, assisted by Marina Swikull and Savannah Rennie.

The game would go into sudden death overtime, with only a three minute break and no ice flood.

Only two shots would be taken in the overtime before a winner was crowned and it did not take long.

Salzburg’s Annika Fazokas would do her home fans proud, scoring the overtime winner, her second goal of the game, at the 2:19 mark of OT, assisted by Marja Linzbichler.

Memmingen dominated the game in shots, out shooting Salzburg 46-17. Both teams scoreless on the power play, each going 0 for 3.
