General Manager Patrik Allvin announced Sunday that the Canucks have agreed with Nils Höglander on a 3-year contract extension with a $3 million AAV.

“We were all impressed with the way Nils came into training camp and approached the preseason,” said Allvin.

“His work ethic, tenacity and motor have helped him establish himself as an NHL player and we feel with our continued support and development he has a lot more room to grow both on and off the ice.”

The Canucks 6-game preseason play began last night with a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken.

Nils Hoglander, Filip Hronek, and Pius Suter (empty net)  scored for Vancouver, who took a 2-0 lead before Seattle notched their one and only goal in the opening 10 seconds of the final period by Ben Myers.

Jonathan Lekkerimaki had two assists, and the line of Nils Hoglander, Linus Karlsson, and Aatu Räty played very well..

Arturs Silovs stopped 18 of 19 shots for Vancouver, who now take on the Calgary Flames tonight in Abbotsford B.C.

Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet said he liked the effort from the group, and he would have liked to see them manage the second period.

“I thought it was a good effort. Little sloppy at times, some turnovers, but the power play was good, getting a couple of goals. Thought some of the kids played well, Šilovs obviously played very well,” Tocchet said.

Artūrs Šilovs had a number of sprawling saves and some quick reads at close range to keep the Kraken at bay. He felt the team played well in front of him and it was a team effort to pull out the win.

“It felt great. It was amazing to play our first game at home, especially the crowd, its fantastic energy all around, so I think that helped us a lot to perform better,” said Šilovs.
