Sources say that RFA Nick Robertson has no plans to re-sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer and has informed the team that he would like to be traded, according to Chris Johnston, an TSN Hockey Insider.

Nicholas Robertson (born September 11, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey left winger for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL).

He was selected 53rd overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs during the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs, where he had 1 goal in 4 games.

He is the younger brother of Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson.

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent qualifying offers to Nick Robertson, Alex Steeves, and Connor Dewar, but not Noah Gregor – making him an unrestricted free agent today.

Steeve’s and Dewar have arbitration as an option for negotiating purposes. Robertson has no such alternative and must negotiate directly with the team and has less leverage in obtaining the contract he and his agent feel he deserves, according to sources.

The Vancouver Canucks have limited salary-cap space to fulfill their needs when free agency opens today at 9 am PDT.

They need a third-line centre, some long-term solutions on the right side of defence and more speed, size and skill scattered across the bottom half of the lineup.

Vancouver has been linked in reports to free-agent defencemen Carson Soucy and Ian Cole, who was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Stanley Cup-winning teams built by Canucks president Jim Rutherford with help from Allvin.

Scott Mayfield and Connor Clifton are other free-agent defencemen who might help the Canucks without proving exorbitantly expensive. Of course, they could help other teams, too.

Centers rumored to be on Canucks list of interest:

  • Pius Suter
  • Lars Eller
  • Teddy Blueger
  • Tomas Nosek
  • Derek Ryan
  • Pierre-Edouard Bellemare
  • Derick Brassard

Should be an interesting day. Stay tuned.
