Jake Virtanen Signs With KHL’s Spartak Moscow For 2021-2022 Season

Hockey “Spartak” Moscow and Canadian striker Jake Virtanen signed a contract for one season.
The 25-year-old Virtanen (186 cm, 103 kg) is the winner of the “gold” of the youth world championship and the “bronze” of the junior world championship as part of the Canadian national team.
In 2014, Virtanen was selected 6th overall in the NHL by the Vancouver Canucks, and has played 333 league and playoff games for Vancouver over the past six seasons with 103 points (57 goals + 46 assists).
Roman Belyaev, sports director, HC Spartak Moscow:
We are counting on Virtanen as a player of the first two links, a very useful and dangerous player of the majority. Jake is a fast and powerful striker with good handwork, speed and throw. He can play both on the left and on the right flank – he is dangerous when playing in front of the goal and will be able to play the role of a power forward in the KHL.
Virtanen needs to add skill, speed and depth to our line of attack. With its signing, the coaching staff of “Spartak” has a great deal of variability in choosing the squad for individual matches and organizing the game in equal squads and a majority.
Virtanen joins Emil Pettersson, the brother of Vancouver Canucks forward, Elias Pettersson, who joined HC Spartak Moscow prior to the beginning of the KHL 2021-22 season .
