Jaime Todd and Thomas Drance of Canucks Talk had a chance today to speak to Patrik Allvin, General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks about all things Canucks on Sportsnet 650.
On his Twitter account, Thomas Drance provided answers by Allvin to topics of discussion in real-time, keeping Twitter fans updated.

On the OEL buyout:
“I’m not a big fan of buyouts, but in this particular case, it was an opportunity too big to pass up on.”
“I said my *intention* is not to use buyouts,” says Patrik Allvin regarding his previous comments on buyouts and the contrast with the club’s decision to buyout OEL the first day the buyout window opened.
“It gives us opportunity to be part of trades and free agent signings,” says Allvin. Says he wants to use the cap space to improve.
As For Creating Space To Improve Team:
“My goal isn’t just to create space, it’s to improve our team,” says Allvin.
Notes that the club has held meetings with coaches, R+D, and scouts to “try and identify players that fit into our team next year,” Allvin says.
Regarding the Youthful Canucks Prospects:
“We’re extremely happy with where we are in terms of younger players coming into our organization,” says Allvin, name checking McWard, Juulsen and Hirose.
Expects them to compete for roster spots next season.
Part of Working Hard Is Checking What The League Has To Offer:
“There is a lot of work to be done here in order for us to get better,” says Patrik Allvin.
Says the club is digging into the market around the league.
On Ethan Bear:
“We continue having discussions with his camp and with our staff and we’ll see what the best options are,” says Allvin of Ethan Bear.
Notes the club hasn’t decided on whether or not to qualify him yet, but obviously, the injury looms large over his QO situation.
Elias Pettersson Extension:
“We’re going to sit down when the time is right,” says Allvin of getting into the weeds with Elias Pettersson and his camp on an extension.
Pettersson becomes extension eligible on July 1.
“There is no rush,” Allvin adds.
On Brock Boeser and Tyler Myers:
In discussing Brock Boeser, it’s clear that he’s off the block. Likewise, with Tyler Myers, Allvin says he’ll be part of the club moving forward.
As for Trading Up In The 2023 Draft:
“I’m looking at options to trade up, if that’s an option,” says Allvin of picking at 11th overall, noting also that the club is excited about 11 and won’t make a trade just to make a trade.
On drafting a Defenseman:
“I think there are a couple of defenseman at the top of the draft… that have potential to be really good defenseman,” says Patrik Allvin.
Tanner Pearson Hand Update:
“The indication I have got is that Tanner Pearson’s hand is healing, and he’s preparing to be part of training camp,” says Allvin.
