Canucks Score Two Goals In 3rd, Win 4th In Last Five Games, 4-3 Over Islanders

Hoglander, Podkolzin convert 45 seconds apart for Vancouver, which has won four of five

ELMONT, N.Y. — The Vancouver Canucks scored two goals in 45 seconds in the third period to rally past the New York Islanders 4-3 at UBS Arena on Thursday.

Nils Hoglander and Vasily Podkolzin scored the third-period goals, Quinn Hughes had two assists, and Thatcher Demko made 24 saves for the Canucks (27-23-6), who have won four of their past five games and will conclude a four-game road trip at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Noah Dobson scored for the Islanders (20-23-8), who have lost four of five (1-3-1) and were beginning a six-game homestand. Semyon Varlamov made 34 saves.

Anthony Beauvillier gave New York a 3-2 lead at 1:49 of the third period. He stole the puck from Brock Boeser in the slot, deked Demko and had his shot trickle over the goal line off the stick of the Vancouver forward.

Hoglander tied it 3-3 at 9:34 when he redirected Conor Garland‘s feed in the low slot, and Podkolzin put the Canucks in front 4-3 at 10:19 with a one-timer off a backhand pass from Bo Horvat, who warded off Scott Mayfield to make the play.

Demko preserved the lead with 1:21 remaining with a save on Jean-Gabriel Pageau‘s wrist shot from the edge of the left circle.

Dobson gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead at 3:37 of the second period when he one-timed Brock Nelson‘s pass from the right point. It was his 10th goal of the season.

Brad Hunt scored his first of the season to tie it 1-1 at 7:19 on a one-timer following a giveaway by Sebastian Aho that trickled past Varlamov.

J.T. Miller scored at 11:50 on a redirection of Boeser’s wrist shot to give the Canucks a 2-1 lead.

Kyle Palmieri tied it 2-2 at 18:20 when he one-timed a diagonal pass from Adam Pelech off a face-off win by Pageau.
