PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. – The Abbotsford Canucks announced today the club’s initial training camp roster, prior to its first on-ice session at Port Coquitlam Community Centre. The 24-man roster includes 12 forwards, 10 defencemen and two goaltenders.

The 2022 Training Camp Roster features seven former Vancouver Canucks draft picks. In addition, 10 players were signed as free agents to AHL contracts, three players were signed as free agents to NHL contracts by the Vancouver Canucks, one player was acquired via trade by the Vancouver Canucks and two players are currently participating on AHL Training Camp try-out agreements.

Sixteen (16) players from the roster appeared in at least one game with the Abbotsford Canucks during the team’s inaugural season in 2021-22.

Mike Yeo has been brought on as an Assistant Coach

Trent Cull has been promoted to Assistant Coach of the Vancouver Canucks

Jeremy Colliton will take over as Head Coach of the Abbotsford Canucks

Brad Shaw will be leaving the organization to take an Associate Coach position with the Philadelphia Flyers.

“We’re pleased to have solidified our Coaching staff for next season with the promotion of Trent Cull and the additions of Mike Yeo and Jeremy Colliton,” said Allvin. “These individuals bring a lot of hockey experience and knowledge to the group. We would like to thank Brad Shaw for his contributions to the club and wish him the best of luck in Philadelphia.”

“I am so excited to help bring this group of coaches together,” said Canucks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau.

“When I started the conversations with Mike Yeo, it became clear to me that he would be an excellent addition. Working with Patrik to create a well-rounded staff was very important for us as we look to continue to build upon the momentum we experienced last season.”

“Trent Cull did an excellent job for us at the AHL level, and I am so happy to see him get this much deserved promotion,” said Johnson.

“Bringing in Jeremy Colliton to build on the things we have started in Abbotsford is a huge win for the organization. Jeremy has a great head for the game, and I look forward to working with him this coming season.”

Yeo, 48, served as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2020-21 and for the first 22 games of 2021-22 before being named Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season. He previously acted as the Head Coach of the Minnesota Wild from 2011.12 to 2015.16 and St. Louis blues from 2016.17 to 2018.19.

Throughout 542 NHL games coached, Yeo compiled a 263-217-62 record. The Scarborough native collected a Stanley Cup as an Assistant Coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009.

Trent Cull begins his sixth year with the Canucks organization after most recently serving as the first Head Coach of the Abbotsford Canucks. In Abbotsford’s inaugural season, Cull posted a 39-23-5-1 record and led the team to the playoffs.

Cull, 48, joined the Canucks’ AHL affiliate on June 18, 2017, after having significant coaching and playing experience in the league. Prior to joining the Canucks organization, he served as Assistant Coach of the Syracuse Crunch for four seasons, his second stint with the team after serving in the same role from 2006-10. In 2017 Cull led the Crunch to an Eastern Conference Championship and a berth in the 2017 Calder Cup Final.

Colliton, 37, was named the 38th Head Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, where he served for parts of four seasons. In 205 career NHL games coached, all with the Blackhawks, he posted a record of 87-92-26. Prior to coaching in the NHL, he acted as the Head Coach of Chicago’s AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, where he accumulated a record of 46-31-0-11 in 88 games.
