Saturday Canucks Offence Strikes, But Not Capable of Taking It Home
The Vancouver Canucks prospects were in Everett, Washington State. They arrived there to battle the Seattle Kraken in the 2025 Prospects Showcase on September 13.
Game 1 did not go as planned for Vancouver, as they ended up falling 5-3 to the Kraken.
The first period was scoreless at Angel of the Winds Arena. In the second frame, the Canucks prospects got on the scoreboard. They scored three consecutive goals for a 3-0 lead. Two of the goals were 14 seconds apart. Vilmer Alriksson, Gabriel Chiarot and Nick Poisson scored the Vancouver goals.

In the final period, Seattle’s Eduard Sale pulled the Kraken within a goal at the halfway mark. With less than eight minutes left, Berkly Catton evened the game up at 3-3 for Seattle.
Kraken take a 4-3 lead at 13:08 on a marker by Nathan Villeneuve. Seattle seals the game at 18:25 on an empty netter by Carson Rehkopf for the final score of 5-3.
Despite the loss, there were a few standouts from the game for Vancouver according to Adam Kierszenblat of thehockeynews.com, including Alexei Medvedev, Vilmer Alriksson and Elias Pettersson.
Alexei Medvedev: Medvedev was arguably the Canucks best player on Saturday night. He delivered some highlight-reel saves. He was the main reason why this game was close from start to finish. Ultimately, Medvedev exceeded expectations in his first start with Vancouver. He demonstrated why the Canucks were eager to draft him in the second round.
Vilmer Alriksson: Moving to the forward group, Alriksson really stood out all night. He was physical and scored a beautiful goal where he used his size to shield the puck before Niklas Kokko. In the end, Alriksson used his size to his advantage. He was a pain in the neck for Seattle’s defenders all night.
Elias Pettersson: As expected, defenceman Elias Pettersson stood out as one of Vancouver’s top players. He was laying massive hits and created the Canucks third goal of the game with his shot. Pettersson consistently won board battles. He demonstrated an ability to transition the puck out of the defensive zone.
Until next time, hockey fans
