PUTTING THE ‘WIN’ IN WINNIPEG
With a win on Thursday evening, the Canucks (2-0-0) can sweep the season series against the Winnipeg Jets for the first time since the teams began playing each other at least twice each season (2013.14).
FRONT OFFICE REFRESH
Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford announced Wednesday that Patrik Allvin has been named the 12th General Manager in franchise history. Since Rutherford joined the club on Dec. 9, he has also filled two Assistant General Manager positions (Derek Clancey &Émilie Castonguay) and also added to the team’s Analytics department (Rachel Doerrie).
SPENCE-TACULAR
Achieving career-highs in shots faced (50) and saves (47) on Jan. 25 vs EDM, Spencer Martin recorded the most saves by a Canucks goaltender with five or fewer games of NHL experience, besting Glen Hanlon’s 43-save performance on Oct. 18/78 vs MNS. It also marked the 25th occasion in regular season franchise history that a goaltender faced 50 or more shots, with Martin’s save percentage (.940) ranking 8th among that group.
A GRAND ACCOMPLISHMENT
Head Coach Bruce Boudreau coached his 1,000th NHL game (577-306-117) on Jan. 23 vs STL, becoming the 29th coach in NHL history and sixth active Head Coach (Trotz, Ruff, D. Sutter, Laviolette, Tippett) to reach the milestone. Only one head coach in NHL history (Scotty Bowman, 598 wins) had more wins than Boudreau’s 577 at the 1,000 game mark.
MYSEY’S MILESTONE
Tyler Myers appeared in his 800th career NHL game on Jan. 25 vs EDM, making him only the second Texas-born player in League history to reach that mark. Myers ranks second all-time among Texas-born skaters for games played (800), goals (86), and points (317), behind only Brian Leetch.
PASSER PETEY
Assisting on Tanner Pearson’s opening goal on Jan. 23 vs STL, Elias Pettersson recorded his 100th career assist in his 206th game, marking the sixth- fewest games needed to reach the milestone by a Canucks skater who debuted with the team, trailing teammate Quinn Hughes (151), Pavel Bure (187), Thomas Gradin (187), Stan Smyl (191), and Patrik Sundstrom (195).
HERO HUGHES
On Jan. 21 vs FLA, Quinn Hughes collected his 30th assist for the third consecutive season, in just his 39th game. This is the second fewest games required by a defenceman to reach 30 assists in a season in Canucks franchise history, behind only Paul Reinhart (33) in 1989.90.
