SKP Bratislava Scores Two In Last Minute, Defeat DEC Salzburg 4-3

By Andrew Chernoff

DEC Salzburg Eagles (0-3-2-1) played their second consecutive game of the weekend today, entering the game after a 4-2 loss to Aisulu Almaty yesterday.

HC SKP Bratislava (5-2-0-1) arrived in Salzburg rested and fresh to take on their league rivals.

Salzburg was looking for its first win in regulation or overtime, of the EWHL season.

After falling behind 2-0 to Bratislava in the second period, after a scoreless opening period, the home team scored three in a row to take a 3-2 lead into the final minute of the game.

Carmen Lasis, the Salzburg goalie, was standing on her head, doing everything she could to keep her team in the game and it worked, and all she and her teammates had to do was get that elusive first win of the EWHL season.

With their first win of the season so close, the unimaginable, the unthinkable, would occur to steal the game out of their grasp.

SKP Bratislavas’ Anna Maria Surakova, who already had a goal and assist in the game, scored unassisted to knot the game at 3-3, with 57 seconds left in the game.

With DEC Salzburg in shock and rattled, the home team had to keep its composure, and at the very least force overtime, if not win in regulation.

SKP Bratislava, with the momentum, took the game to the home squad, sensing they were not the same confident team that came back and took the lead, and pressed for that one shot to end it all in regulation.

And that goal came, off the pass of Surakova, to Lucia Haluskova, who made no mistake, with 18 seconds left.

Victory snatched from DEC Salzburg Eagles, with a last minute burrage, powerful attack of HC SKP Bratislava.
