European Women’s Hockey League Begins 2021-2022 Season

The first game was played today, involving EHV Sabres against Silesian Metropolis Katowice, with EHV Sabres winning 7-0 in Vienna, Austria.

The Sabres led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Nadine Edney, assisted by Emma Mortl at 8:16. Sabres outshot Katowice 10-3.

The Sabres would lead 5-0 after two periods, with four goals in the middle frame, on goals by Lara Kraus at 3:38, assisted by Monika Vleck and Esther Vaarala; Karolina Hengelmüller at 4:11, assists to Edney and Kraus; Emily Reid at 10:34, assisted by Tatum Skaggs; and Lisa Schrofl at 13:22, assists to Skaggs and Lena Marie Artner. Sabres outshot Katowice 11-8 in the period.

Sabres would end the game in the third period with two more goals. Edney would notch her second goal of the game at 6:13, assists to Hengelmuller and Laura Lüftenegger; and Skaggs at 59:27, assisted by Anna Hanser.

Sabres outshot Katowice in the game 31-18. Both teams were 0 for 1 on the power play.
