Never has there been a better time to buy Canucks.
In the latest Bodog odds — the first since the Stanley Cup ended in mid-June — the Canucks are one of four teams considered least likely to win the 2016-17 Cup.
The Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Arizona Coyotes and Carolina Hurricanes have all been given 66-to-1 odds to win the Stanley Cup.
In June, two other clubs — the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs — had worse odds than the Canucks. But, 10 days later, the Leafs grabbed Auston Matthews with the No. 1 pick; the Sabres, meanwhile, will have Jack Eichel, Ryan O’Reilly and Sam Reinhart for a second season — and signed free agent Kyle Okposo to a long-term deal in July. Both teams now have 50-to-1 odds to win the Cup.
The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins and the Chicago Blackhawks have the best current odds, at 9-to-1. The Montreal Canadiens have the best odds among the seven Canadian NHL teams, at 25-to-1. The Edmonton Oilers are next at 33-to-1.
The Canucks are at 15-to-1 to win the Pacific Division, ahead only of the 18-1 Coyotes. The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings are the favourites at 9-to-4, followed by the Stanley Cup finalist San Jose Sharks at 13-to-5.
