Forward Linus Karlsson Signs Entry-Level Contract With Canucks

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has signed forward Linus Karlsson to an entry-level contract.

“We are excited to officially welcome Linus to Vancouver,” said Allvin. “He is a good goal scorer who plays a solid two-way game, and he is coming off an impressive rookie season in Sweden. We look forward to seeing him develop his game in North America.”

Karlsson, 22, appeared in 52 games with Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) last season, leading the team in goals (26) and ranking second in overall scoring with 46 points (26-20-46). His point total also ranked ninth league-wide and first among all SHL rookies, earning him the honours of the SHL Rookie of the Year. He also skated in six playoff games with Skellefteå AIK, contributing one assist.

Previously, Karlsson spent three seasons in the HockeyAllsvenskan league, registering 109 points (39-70-109) across 152 regular season games split between Karlskrona HK and BIK Karlskoga. He also collected 18 points in 17 postseason Allsvenskan games.

A native of Eksjö, Sweden, Karlsson has also represented his country on the international stage on multiple occasions, totalling 11 points (4-7-11) and six penalty minutes in 15 games.

The 6’1″, 178-pound forward was originally selected by San Jose in the third round, 87th overall at the 2018 NHL Entry draft and was acquired by Vancouver via trade on February 25, 2019.

PRESS RELEASE FROM SKELLEFTEAAIK.SE

Hawryluk comes most recently from Vancouver where he made 30 NHL appearances last season. It was 5 points in total, but before that he was successful in Ottawa with 7 points in 11 games. If we back the band further, he was in Florida’s organization where he worked his way up through the AHL ranks and eventually got the chance in the world’s highest ranked league. Now he brings all this to the SHL for games in Skellefteå AIK this season.

I’m super tagged! It’s a place I’ve never visited so I’m really looking forward to getting there. I’ve only heard good things about the organization and about the team so that made the decision easy. So we look forward to it, me and my girlfriend. It will be a completely new experience so it will be great fun, says Jayce.

At 25 years old, he is at a good stage in his career. Now he wants to further develop his game in black and yellow.

I have played professionally for five years now and wherever you play, you gather new experiences that you can take with you and apply to your upcoming challenges. I have gained a lot of experience which I now take with me and look forward with the plan to continue playing and developing my game.

Jayce joins the team next week. He has clearly set goals for this SHL adventure and is eager to get started.

I want to show my knowledge. Just go out, play hard, enjoy it and most of all win. That is my main goal this season: to win with Skellefteå. If we can achieve that, I am convinced that personal development will come with the journey. You just have to be focused and work hard together towards the set goal.

Erik Forssell, General Manager for Skellefteå AIK, comments on the latest acquisition:

It feels great to finish with Jayce. A good all-round player who we think masters many parts of the game. Has shown in the AHL that he can be a productive offensive player, but also has many good defensive qualities. He will be useful to us in many ways.
