Canucks Make Late Comeback, Hang On To Beat Sharks For 4rth Road Win

The Canucks (5-2-3, t-3rd Pacific Division) entered the game, looking to bounce back after two consecutive losses at home, the Sharks (3-8-2, 8th Pacific Division) were going for their 4rth consecutive win.

Final Minutes Heroics

Jake DeBrusk gave the Canucks their first lead of the game at 15:38 of the 3rd period with his first goal of the season for a 2-1 advantage, assisted by Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek.

Seconds before the goal, Brock Boeser hit the goal post behind Sharks starting goalie Mackenzie Blackwood.

The Sharks pulled their goalie and were able to even the game at 2-2 on a shot by Mikael Garland at 18:43.

The rest of the game would be frantic for that winning goal and as good fortune would have it,  the Canucks would retake the lead on a clutch goal by Pius Suter at 19:34, his second goal of the game, on a slap shot, to make it 3-2.

The Sharks would pile in front of Canucks goalie Kevin Lankinen with the man advantage one last time in the final seconds, but to no avail.

Game Recap

Suter with 2 goals and DeBrusk with his first of the season was all the scoring Vancouver needed. Single assists went to Nils Höglander, Quinn Hughes, Filip Hronek, Conor Garland, and Carson Soucy.

There was no scoring in the opening period with Vancouver outshooting San Jose 9-3.

In the second period, the Sharks got on board first to make it 1-0, when Nico Strum scored at 2:37. Pius Suter would knot the game at 2-2, with less than five minutes left in the period at 14:42.

Vancouver goalie Kevin Lankinen stopped 21 of 23 shots for a .913 SV%.

Mikael Granlund and Nico Strum had Sharks goals. Tyler Toffoli, Luke Kunin, William Ekland had helpers.

Sharks goalie MacKenzie Blackwood stopped 25 of 28 shots.

For the Canucks, they continue to dominate the Sharks with tonight’s victory making it the 13th win in the last 14 played against San Jose.

Canucks Fall to Hurricanes in Overtime Heartbreaker

The Vancouver Canucks (4-1-3, t-3rd Pacific Division) and Carolina Hurricanes (6-2-0, 3rd Metropolitan Division) lived up to their billing as a clash between two teams riding winning streaks.

The Canucks lost a hard-fought battle against the Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime at Rogers Arena on Monday night. Their win streak ended at 4-games while Carolina extended theirs to 4-games.

The game was a tight contest throughout, with both teams exchanging scoring chances and Canucks starting goalie Kevin Lankinen providing spectacular goaltending to give his team a chance to win.

William Carrier opened the scoring for Carolina at 5:40 of the 1rst period as the Hurricanes were all over the Canucks from the beginning of the game.

Vancouver responded less than two minutes later on an effort by Brock Boeser to even the score at 1-1.

The Canucks then rallyed to seemingly take the lead on a beautiful effort by Arshdeep Bains to give Vancouver the early lead at 2-1 less than two minutes later but was successfully challenged by Carolina for being offside.

The Hurricanes scored late in the opening period on a goal by Martin Necas to take a 2-1 lead into the first period intermission.

After falling behind 3-1 early in the second period on a Carolina goal by Jake Roslovic, the Canucks battled back to tie the game in the 3rd period with goals from Quinn Hughes and Pius Suter.

Suter tied the game for Vancouver with just 3:05 left in regulation, setting the stage for a dramatic finish in overtime.

Carolina’s Sebastian Aho scored the game-winner for Carolina just 47 seconds into the overtime session, securing the victory for the Hurricanes.
