What’s Up?:

Vancouver (1-0-0=2 pts) play their second of four consecutive home games to start the season, taking on the Carolina Hurricanes (0-0-1=1pts) at Rogers Arena.

Vancouver hosted Calgary in their season/home opener at Rogers Arena, defeating their division rivals in a 2-1  shootout, handing the Flames their third consecutive loss of the season.

Canucks top line of the Sedins and Loui Ericksson scored the 1-1 goal with 3:51 left in the game. With a scoreless overtime, the game would be decided in the shootout when Brandon Sutter would pot the winning goal, for Vancouver’s first victory of the season at home.

The Hurricanes played their season opener on the road on Thursday night against the Winnipeg Jets, in the first game of a 6 game road trip, blowing a three goal, 4-1 lead, losing in overtime 5-4.

Jeff Skinner and Lee Stempniak each had a goal and an assist for Carolina. Jordan Staal and Victor Rask also scored for the Hurricanes.  Goalie Cam Ward stopped 21 shots in the loss.

Carolina is hoping for better fortune tonight in the second game of four on their Western Canada road swing, while Vancouver will be doing all they can to hand them their second consecutive loss to start the season.

Eddie Lack is expected to get the start in net for the Hurricanes, while it is possible that Jacob Markstrom could start for the Canucks.

What’s at stake:

Vancouver would like to keep winning, and make it back-to-back victories on home ice, and build on the momentum of the emotional win against Calgary last night.

Vancouver power play was 0 for 3 last night, and the concern of the Canucks man advantage woes continuing need to be nipped in the bud, if Canucks management are really serious of making the playoffs.
