Canucks Come To Terms With Free Agent Jake DeBrusk on 7-Year $5.5 Million AAV Contract

General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that Vancouver has come to terms with free agent forward Jake DeBrusk on a 7-year contract with a $5.5 million AAV.

“Jake will be a great addition to our top six and gives us another offensive option up front,” said Allvin.

“He is a smart two-way player who plays with pace. He isn’t afraid to go to the tough areas of the ice and uses his strong motor and determination to drive play.”

  • Jake DeBrusk is a second-generation Jake DeBrusk is a second-generation NHL player, following the same path as his father, Louie, who played 401 games for the Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Phoenix Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks
  • DeBrusk is a left wing who can score, and after he had 81 points (42 goals, 39 assists) in 72 games for Swift Current of the Western Hockey League, the Boston Bruins selected him with the second of their three consecutive first-round picks (No. 14) in the 2015 NHL Draft.
  • The Bruins signed DeBrusk to a three-year, entry-level contract on Nov. 12, 2015, and after one more season in the WHL, he turned pro and was assigned to Providence of the American Hockey League, where he had 49 points (19 goals, 30 assists) in 74 games.
  • DeBrusk earned a spot on the Bruins out of training camp in 2017 and wasted no time scoring his first NHL goal, beating Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators in his debut on Oct. 5, 2017, with Louie in the stands.   • He signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Bruins on March 21, 2022, and set NHL career highs in goals (27) and points (50) in 64 games the following season. His five goals and 11 points in 13 games led Boston in the 2024 playoffs.
  • DeBrusk, 27, appeared in 80 games with the Boston Bruins in 2023.24, posting 40 points (19-21-40), 18 penalty minutes, and a +4 plus/minus rating. He also appeared in 13 playoff games last season, recording 11 points (5-6-11) and two penalty minutes.
  • The 6’1”, 198lbs forward has played 465 career regular season games, all with Boston, recording 266 points (138-128-266), 101 penalty minutes, and a +51 plus/minus rating.
  • The Edmonton, Alberta native has appeared in 86 career playoff matchups, posting 47 points (27-20-47) and 36 penalty minutes.
  • DeBrusk was originally selected by the Boston Bruins in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
