Vancouver Extends Home Undefeated Streak In Regulation To 7 Games, End 4 Game Losing Skid

Vancouver (21-19-6=48 pts) played the second game of their three game homestand tonight at Rogers Arena against Central division, Nashville Predators (20-17-7=47 pts).

Canucks Extend Home Undefeated Streak In Regulation To 7 Games With Regulation Win Over Nashville

Vancouver was hoping to end their four game winless streak (0-1-3), and get back to winning against Nashville tonight, and their mission was completed with a 1-0 victory over the Predators.

Canucks, are now 8-1-2 in their last 11 home games, best home record in the NHL since Dec 16:

  • Wins: Tampa Bay, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Colorado, Arizona, Calgary and Nashville
  • Regulation Loss: Winnipeg
  • Overtime Losses: Columbus, New Jersey

including being undefeated in regulation in their last 7 home games.

Henrik Sedin Gets 999th Career Point On His Game Winning Goal

Henrik Sedin scored the lone Vancouver goal, to win the game, a 1-0 win, his 999th career point.

Vancouver continues in 6th place in the Pacific division, with 48 points, tied with 5th place Los Angeles, 3 points behind 4th place Calgary; 16 points ahead of 7th, and last place, Arizona.

The Flames and Kings presently occupy the two wild card playoff positions in the Western conference, with Vancouver right behind the Kings, with the same amount of points, but Los Angeles with one more win than the Canucks.

Game Review

In the first,  the Predators scored a controversial goal at 15:10 by Derek Grant, his 1st of the season, to put Nashville up by a goal at 1-0.

Canucks claimed that goalie Ryan Miller had the puck, and Miller was adamant he was interfered, resulting in the goal.

After a referee review it was determined that the play was whistled dead prior to the puck crossing the line, and the game remained scoreless at the end of the first period.

After two periods, the games first goal still had not been scored, and the game continued to be scoreless.

Vancouver entered the third period with a 6-2-1 record after being tied after two periods and looked to add a 7th win to that record. Nashville had previously lost 7 of 9 when tied after two periods (2-4-3).

In the third, potted his 10th goal of the season, his 999th point of his NHL career, at 12:28, assisted by Luca Sbisa (9) and Loui Eriksson (11), to give the Canucks the lead at 1-0.

 

That is all Vancouver would need.

Miller Takes 13th Win, And 38th Career Shutout

Ryan Miller stopped all 30 shots he faced against Nashville.

Since Dec 28th, Miller is 6-0-2, with a 1.58 GAA (2nd best in NHL, min 8 GP), and .948 Sv% (2nd best in NHL, min 8 GP) and 2 shutouts (tied for 2nd best in NHL).

Miller’s season totals now stand at 13-10-3, with a 2.54 GAA, and .917 Sv%, and 2 shutouts, in 26 game starts.

Henrik Sedin Extends Points Streak To Three Games

Henrik and Daniel Sedin entered the game on a 2 game point streaks.

Henrik extended his points streak (1-2=3 pts / 3 Games); while Daniel’s came to an end (1-1=2 pts / 2 Games).

The Canucks continue conclude their 3-game homestand with a visit from Florida (Jan. 20). Vancouver then hits the road for three games prior to the All-Star break: At Chicago (Jan. 22), at Colorado (Jan. 25) and at Arizona (Jan. 26).

Vancouver (20-19-6=46 pts) played the first game of a three game homestand tonight at Rogers Arena against Eastern conference rivals, New Jersey Devils (18-18-9=45 pts).

Canucks Consecutive Win Streak In Regulation Ends At 5 Games With OT Loss 

The Canucks lost a tough came, a 2-1 loss to the Devils in overtime, ending their win streak at 5 consecutive wins in regulation, but stay undefeated in their last 6 games at home in regulation.

Vancouver entered the game with a home record of 15-6-2, 7th best in the NHL and winners of their last 5 home games, over: Los Angeles, Anaheim, Edmonton, Colorado, and Arizona.

Canucks are now 7-1-2 in their last 10 home games, for best home record in the NHL since Dec 15.

Canucks In Playoff Hunt, 4 Points Out Of First Wild Card

Vancouver continues in 6th place in the Pacific division, with 46 points, 2 points behind 5th place Los Angeles, 3 points behind 4th place Calgary; 14 points ahead of 7th, and last place, Arizona.

The Flames and Kings presently occupy the two wild card playoff positions.

Game Review

The first period was scoreless. Loui Eriksson scored his 10th of the season to open the scoring and make it 1-0 Vancouver in the second period at 6:31; Kyle Quincey tied the game at 1-1 for the Devils before the end of the 2nd at 16:57.

 

In the third, the Devils scored a challenged goal at 15:53 by Blake Coleman, his 1st of the season, unassisted, to put New Jersey up by a goal at 2-1. Canucks claimed offside on the play. It was determined that the play was indeed offside, and the score remained unchanged.

The game would be decided in overtime, with New Jersey scoring at 1:28, on a goal by Taylor Halls, his 11th.

Henrik Sedin collected his 19th helper of the season, while Daniel earned his 14 assist on the Eriksson goal.

Markstrom Takes Loss

Jacob Markstrom stopped 20 of 22 shots, and with the OT loss now has a record of 8-9-3, with a 2.59 GAA, and .912 Sv%.

Sutter Points Streak Comes To An End

Brandon Sutter entered the game on a 2 game points streak (2-1=3 pts / 2 Games), and had no points tonight.

The Canucks continue their 3-game homestand with visits from Nashville (Jan. 17) and Florida (Jan. 20). Vancouver then hits the road for three games prior to the All-Star break: At Chicago (Jan. 22), at Colorado (Jan. 25) and at Arizona (Jan. 26).
