Utica Comets Win 2nd Consecutive Game, Virtanen Gets Assist

The Utica Comets (5-9-1-0) have their first two game winning streak of the season, defeating division rivals Rochester Americans (7-8-0-1), 2-1, tonight at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The Comets have won three of their last four games on their current homestand (3-2-0-0), with one remaining on November 23, with a visit from the Syracuse Crunch.

The previous two wins were in overtime, 3-2 and 5-4.

Utica keeps pace with Binghamton, who won 6-3 tonight against Albany, as the Comets continue to be tied for 6th place, with the Senators, with 11 points after 15 games.

Richard Bachman started the game, being replaced in the 3rd period by Thatcher Demko, when he got injured.

The Comets outshot the Americans, 27-20.

Cole Cassels scored the winning goal, shorthanded in the second period. Curtis Valk scored his 7th goal of the season for Utica in the first period. Joseph LaBate, with an assist on the Cassels goal; Jake Virtanen and Darren Archibald with assists on the Valk goal, had other points in the game.

Virtanen’s assist was his first point in 4 games with Utica this season.

 

Utica Comets Go For Two Wins In A Row Tonight Against Rochester Americans

The Utica Comets (4-9-1-0) take on division rivals Rochester Americans (7-7-0-1) tonight at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The Comets are nearing the end of their 6 game homestand, and are currently 2-2-0-0, with both wins coming in overtime, 3-2 and 5-4.

COMETS IN NEED OF WINS

Utica are tied for 6th place in the North division with 9 points after 14 games, 6 points behind Rochester, in 5th place with 15 points.

Last Game: The Utica Comets came back from three goals down at home last night, to win in overtime 5-4 over the Springfield Thunderbirds, on Darren Archibald’s second overtime marker in the last 3 games.

Comets goalie, Thatcher Demko stopped 27 of 31 shots, to earn his second professional game victory.

VIRTANEN BACK IN THE HOUSE

Earlier in the week, Jake Virtanen was reassigned to the Comets, after returning to Vancouver after playing two games with Utica last weekend.

Virtanen had success with Darren Archibald and Curtis Valk in his second game last weekend. In 3 games, he has 7 shots, with no goals or assists.

VA-VOOM

Valk and Archibald, ” have had a hand in nine of the Comets las 10 goals the past three games. In that span, Valk has collected three multi-point games, including two three-point games, while Darren Archibald has collected two multi-point efforts and two game-winning overtime goals.”, according to the Utica Comets website.
