By Andrew Chernoff

EVB Eagles Südtirol hosted Aisulu Almaty in EWHL regular season action today in Bolzano, Italy, with the visiting Almaty squad from Kazakhastan continuing to be undefeated in the 2021-22 season, with their third consecutive victory.

The game was the first of two consecutive games between the two rivals with the final game to be played on Saturday in Bolzano.

Almaty scored three goals in the opening period, with the middle period scoreless. They added one more goal in the final period in the Eagles first game of the season.

Shots on goal were even in the game that was closer than the score would indicate, with both teams having 17 shots on net (4-4, 5-5, 8-8).

Penalties became a large factor in the game, with the Eagles doing their best to unsettle their visitors but with little success.

Breanna Bernsden opened the scoring for Almaty at 2:49 on the power play, to make it 1-0, with the Eagles Eleonora Bonafini off for slashing.

Larissa Sviridova gave Aisulu a two goal cushion at 2-0 at 6:59, again on the power play, after the Eagles goalie Daniela Klotz was given a delay of game penalty.

With just over four minutes left in the opening period, Sviridova, with her second goal of the game and period, made it 3-0 Almaty and that is how the first period would end.

The second period had no goals but both teams would not let up on one another, and in the final minute of the period Pernesh Ashimova of Almaty and the Eagles Mara Da Rech would get roughing penalties.

Aisulu Almaty scored the only goal of the third period by Malika Aldabergenova at 4:44.

Arina Chshykolova
