Kraken lose to Canucks in home debut

Canucks Captain Bo Horvat scores twice in Kraken home opener.

SEATTLE — The Seattle Kraken lost to the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 in their home debut in the first game played at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday.

Bo Horvat scored twice and Thatcher Demko made 29 saves for the Canucks (3-2-1), who ended a six-game season-opening road trip with two wins in a row.

Philip Grubauer made 22 saves for the Kraken, who played the first five games of their inaugural NHL season on the road. Seattle has lost four in a row. 

Vince Dunn scored the first goal in the new arena at 19:56 of the first period to give the Kraken a 1-0 lead.

Horvat tied it with a goal at 11:09 of the second.

Mark Giordano scored his first of the season to give the Kraken a 2-1 lead at 5:09 of the third period.

Horvat’s second goal on the power play made it 2-2 at 12:52. 

Canucks Garland unleashes unassisted winning goal.

Conor Garland‘s unassisted goal at 15:58 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie.

Vancouver’s Justin Dowling scored an empty-net goal for the 4-2 final goal.
